Space Weather

Variable conditions in near-Earth and interplanetary space driven largely by solar activity.

01

Solar Wind

The solar wind is a continuous outflow of charged particles from the solar atmosphere. Its interaction with planetary magnetic fields and atmospheres shapes magnetospheres and auroral phenomena.

02

Geomagnetic Storms

Strong solar disturbances can perturb Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere, producing geomagnetic storms.

  • Auroral activity can intensify.
  • High-frequency radio propagation can be affected.
  • Satellite systems can experience increased environmental risk.
  • Spacecraft charging and radiation exposure can become important.
  • Geomagnetically induced currents can affect terrestrial infrastructure.
